ACADEMY BAND

The Surbiton Royal British Legion Youth Academy Band was set up in 2024. The band aims to give young people with none or little musical experience the chance to learn to read and play music, aswell as become familiar with other aspects of a Marching Band such as drill practice. 

Where as our main band recruits between the ages of 8-21, our Academy Band takes on those from age 7 upwards. The band hopes to help grow both music and social skills where young people from all different backgrounds, but with similar interests, can engage in both social and musical activities

Our Academy Band recruits new members 3 times a year. We believe this gives current members enough learning time to be able to advance to our main band. Some members may wish to stay on after this time to get some extra learning time. 

New members have the opportunity to learn any instrument the band provide. This includes a variety of instruments in Brass, woodwind and Percussion and members will also be taught basic Drill/marching, as after all we are a MARCHING BAND.
